Someone once said to me "How decadent!" when I described what my world music show was all about. And today while listening back to this show to write the playlist and this blog entry, it ocurred to me how true this is.
Playing music from my own record collection as I have been doing since the show was born on February 14th 2014 has been a way for me to record memories, and to share them with the world.
For example, in this show, the song "Sweet Lullaby" by Deep Forest, reminds me of a dear friend, Niall Guy, who I had the pleasure of meeting and having in my life for 7 years while we were studying languages and translation together in DCU, Dublin and in Germany.
I'll never forget your beautiful, welcoming, warm flat in James Connolly Tower, Ballymun, nor the brilliant parties we had with music and great tasty food, and great friends from all over the world. Lots of fun and frolicks and dancing in the kitchen was had!
Every time I hear or play the music you introduced me to Niall, I am catapulted gentley back to this beautiful time! "Flesh" by David Gray, and "Sweet Lullaby" being two of the ones I think of most when I think of you, then of course there is Rachid Taha!
And our beautiful friends who came to us on the wings of that lovely dove, Erasmus! Minou from Mulhouse in France, and Yolanda from Bilbao, and Oscar from Barcelona, and that guy from that South American country whose name (both the guy and the country) always seem to escape me, PARAGUAY!!! and our friends from Dublin/DCU, Brian, Mo, Karen, Martin Finke... AHHHHH! Pure heaven! I'm now listening to "Fill Fill a Rún Ó" (come back to me dearest), and all I have to do to bring you and your beautiful friendship back to me is record a new radio show, or do some work on an old show, and sure enough, you're all back - everyone you introduced me to Niall, and everyone I intorduced to you! And all the people I've met on my travels in this lifetime. Ahhh! The decadence! *And now I'm off to make some ketovore pancakes, because whenever I hear the word "decadence" I think of chocolate!
PEPE! (The guy from Paraguay!)
